Tekkit Testing

I have installed Tekkit minecraft onto my server and will be trying it out over the next few days. It won't be up permanantly until I am happy its going to run ok.

Caesar in Gaul

Rome 2 gets a lot of stick, I personally think its a fantastic game. I have almost all the Total War games except Medieval.

I think its the setting that I enjoy. I never got into any of the except the Rome series. There is just so much going on at that time.

Anyway, new DLC, which would be perfect if it had a Asterix mod

Currently I am part way though a campaign playing as Sparta in the default game. Spartan's don't float very well .......

First off we now have a Starbound server as well as the exisiting Minecraft server.

JK2 is also still installed but currently not running and I am pondering on getting Neverwinter up and running again.

Kerbal Space Program multiplayer

Kerbal space program is to get offical multiplayer support. So soon you will be able to blow up on the launch pad together.

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt gameplay trailer

And it looks like ViaCom want to be dicks for some reason and claim ownership of the game which they had nothing to do with except putting it on Spike TV for the lame Video Game Awkward Awards trailer.

So here's this instead:

The next 7 years of darkness: Microtransactions

I jokely said that Dragon Age 3 will bring on the next 7 years of darkness with it being one of the first RPGS released on a the Xbone / PS4. But it turns out that is nothing compared to whats really going on.

Microtransactions in full priced games, including singleplayer.

Now I am not talking about DLC because most DLC isn't micro. What I am talking about is boosters and faster unlocks if you throw more cash at it.

Microsoft seems to be leading the charge but Sony is doing it as well.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-11-23-whens-a-free-to-play-game-not-free-to-play

I need to check into Bravery Default on the 3DS which gets listed to see if its is true that it can suck money to make the game go faster because if it does I will no longer be getting it.

What ever happened with making a game fun instead of making a game broken and forcing people to spend more money to play it properly.

My thoughts on X-Rebirth

To sum it up, yes I do like this game. It has bugs and issues but I have been having fun.

Should you buy the game ?

Problery not right yet, this feels like a early access more than a complete game. I don't even know if its finishable due to being stuck on what seems like a impossable mission.

I own all the X games excluding X-Tension expansion due to it never being released here in the stores. My overall feeling of the X-Series is that it has some good elements but on a whole is quite a dry space game. Much the same way I feel about EvE Online.

X Combat was one of the biggest issues. Dog fighting just felt flat, this coupled with the feeling you were just flying a camera inside a cardboard box didn't really help. Sure the game had a boost key but all it did was get your ship up to max speed. Guns emptied there charge too fast and took too long to  recharge and after a while the combat just became routine.

Rebirth changes this with a combat feel that more like Wing Commander. Boost now accelerates you faster than your max speed, allowing you to catch up to targets but in return drains your shields. Guns now over heat, shutting down but quickly will cool and the new open world system adds for more interesting backdrop to fight in.

A few times I have been hunted down by wings of enemy ships and my option is to cut my losses and run. Making a break for the closest highway ducking between stations for cover.

I was never a big empire builder in X, due to not having the time to set one up and he lies the problem I think is causing so many negative reviews for Rebirth. People expected to be able to make the same old empires but this is a new game in a brand new engine.

So to the X fan, the game is flawed, it shouldn't ever been released and everyone should demand there money back. To me, the space fan, X is a wonderful game with adventure and exploration. I expected more of the same with X-Rebirth but was pleasantly surprised to find a new game.

One thing, the voice acting is still terriable along with the writing. This isn't freelancer when it comes to story.

I wasn't disappointed with the game, in fact parts of it are fantastic. The only real game I have been disappointed with was Dragon Age 2.

Arma 3: Episode 1

Arma 3 first singleplayer episode was  push from the Dev Branch to release this weekend and I have been giving it a good thrashing.

So far this is the best singleplayer arma experience since Operation Flashpoint.

The game so far has been very guided. Allowing you to just get on with the action without the worry of managing troops. OFP ( Operation Flash Point ) was much the same.

The story so far is very typical Arma but its exciting and well executed.

Pacing is also fantastic. I enjoy the running around with little action because when the action hits it hits hard with all the confusion of a battlefield.

This release of Arma also included a ton of new features. The game now renders sun shafts, while they may be a bit too bright it still adds to game nicely.

The biggest update of all time, the update that I have been wishing to be added since Arma 1 is improved rain.

Finally we get none leaky buildings and weird effects with flat 2D rain. Every drop is now simulated and it looks fantastic. Now to just get some inside  rain sound effects ( hitting roofs / over flowing gutters  ) and it will be perfect.

I had put 25+ hours into the game before its singleplayer part was added and the game still feels fresh. I only lasted 30 mins with Battlefield 3 before I was completely bored of it.

Arma 3 is the FPS I enjoy. Its not all about head shots or trick flying but instead the simulation of combat.

A guy who visited my work place said that Oculas Rift support is in the works for the Amra engine ( Dayz ) and I can't wait to try it.

The day of the Doctor

Minecraft 1.7.2 released

The update is so massive, I'll just link the wiki:

http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Version_history#1.7.2

Server is now running 1.7.2 but on the orginal map. The nether has a transport system to the ' Frontier '

The Frontier is a area far enough away from explored areas that it has all the new content.

Eventually I'll setup a commandblock transport system between the original area's and the Frontier.

EvE Valkyrie

Stay away from this game, its EvE desperately trying to combat with other titles but not realising why people want to play theses other titles.

In a recent interview Valkyrie sounds like its going to be like Dust and there is a good chance that it will release on consoles first. Even though its built for the Oculus Rift.

RPS: So EVE and Valkyrie are both PC games, but Dust is – for now, at least – only on PlayStation…

Reid: Hold on a second, we haven’t confirmed that Valkyrie’s on PC. It’s capable of playing on PC right now, but we haven’t confirmed what we’re going to launch it on.

While there  is nothing technically stopping the rift from working on a console except  the Oculus rift as it currently stands is very low res. They are talking about doing 4k screens for the release version which will solve so many problems. Just you need something that can handle 4k res at over 60fps.

The Rift needs a high frame rate, otherwise it breaks the immersion. This is why Doom 3 BFG runs at 120FPS for the Rift.

The diffrence on running the rift on my Home pc vs my slow not game tuned work PC is night and day.

Next Gen Consoles have already stated they are targeting 30fps at 1080p.

This is not good enough for the rift. While I can see them doing 720p at 60fps, it will be upscaled.

Lastly there history of creating features and leaving them for dust ( pun >.< ) goes back to the creation of EvE.

This game will not stop people from playing StarCitizen or Elite. At its best it will feel like the space combat of SW:TOR, tacked on mini game.

Link to interview that started this Rant off:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/10/25/ccp-on-how-valkyrie-will-fuse-with-eve-evolve/

UPDATE:

News came out today that that PS4 can render at 1080p at 60fps in games like Call of Duty, I can't comment on the Xbox One as microsoft are refusing to let people compaire the two consoles.

Does this change much for the rift ?

With the current dev kit that runs at 720p, it means you might get a decent frame rate on the PS4 but I still don't expect it to work well at a 4k res unless it was a basic game rendering wise.

Arma 3 episode 1: Survive

Episode 1 of the Arma 3 campaign starts on the 31st of October.
“Our first campaign episode, ‘Survive’, introduces players to Ben Kerry, a regular soldier who’s part of a NATO peacekeeping mission in the Mediterranean. Following a couple of years of uneasy cease-fire, this US-led deployment is now in the process of a staged drawdown. The vacuum left by withdrawing forces is being rapidly filled by the opposing CSAT faction, creating the conditions for, one might say, a flashpoint”
This is the first official Free DLC from Bohemia Interactive and will feature new characters, weapons and other toys for the sandbox mode.

Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord Screenshots

To me, Mount & Blade: Warband is one of the best games you can get on the PC. It has a amazing Singleplayer expereance and a fun Multiplayer mode. All this from a indy team. Also the DLC is good for some musket action. If you don't have it yet you should grab it off steam ASAP.

It was never about the graphics but just the raw gameplay options and openess to the game but now we get the first look at Bannerlord and it looks amazing.

Minecraft server updated to 1.6.4

Completely missed this update as I was running the Oculas Rift build of minecraft and didn't have autoupdate running.

New features:
  • Includes 1.6.3 fixes.
  • 1.6.3 skipped, released as pre-release only.[2]
  • Added server.properties option player-idle-timeout
  • Kicks players from server when idle for that many minutes, defaults to disabled (0).
  • MC-15547 – Structures (witch huts, nether fortresses etc.) don't get saved with the world file
  • In order for current structures (Witch Huts, Nether Fortresses, etc.) to be saved to the world file, the player must load the appropriate chunks within the game manually. The game will not automatically scan worlds and update structure data globally. After this is completed, structures will be compatible in all snapshots starting at Snapshot 13w37b
  • Fixed handshake exploit

Blizzard is shutting down the Real Money Auction House in D3

When we initially designed and implemented the auction houses, the driving goal was to provide a convenient and secure system for trades. But as we've mentioned on different occasions, it became increasingly clear that despite the benefits of the AH system and the fact that many players around the world use it, it ultimately undermines Diablo's core game play: kill monsters to get cool loot. With that in mind, we want to let everyone know that we've decided to remove the gold and real-money auction house system from Diablo III.

We feel that this move along with the Loot 2.0 system being developed concurrently with Reaper of Souls™ will result in a much more rewarding game experience for our players.

We're working out the details of how the auction house system will be shut down, but we wanted to share the news as soon as we made the decision in order to give everyone as much advance notice as possible. Please note that the shutdown will occur on March 18, 2014. We will keep everyone informed as we work through this process.

Josh Mosqueira and I wanted to provide everyone with a little more information behind this decision, so please have a look at the video, and stay tuned to this site for further updates in the months ahead.
Will that make me happy with the game, problery not. The always online DRM screwed me over. Imagine trying to play diablo in a wierd mode where you had 7 mins to clear a map or reach a checkpoint. Thats what my diablo 3 is like with there DRM.

There customer service completely ignored me. Only giving placebo tips like join global chat.

This never happened in the beta and I never had this issue with playing other blizzard games, Starcraft 2 / Warcraft.

So the real money auction house never bothered me. It just made the game boring in the long term. As I can't play the game in the long term unless someone plays with me its kind of pointless.

Arma 3 Launch Trailer

Arma 3 Drops Beta Tag

Which means, its now released.

Also means its now full price of $59.95. When I brought the game back when it was alpha it was $39.95  $49.95 ( I forgot I paid for the Digital Delux edition )

This does mean that I will be buying almost all the DLC they release to make up for it as it was a steal at that price.

Impressions so far. This is by far the best Arma so far. Controls are slick, graphics are smooth and fast and the AI doesn't seem so cheap.

Since the last dev build I have had a massive increased in frame rate. The game ran well before, but now I have been hitting 120fps in flight over the main island. Could be the nvidia beta drivers I am running. Still get slowdown when smoke is around but slow down is 40fps.

While I am disappointed that the game hasn't launched with singleplayer there is plenty to do until up they release the first story mission which is in October.

Also the game comes with steam workshop so plenty of content to play. Not that I condone user made content as a replacement for official missions.

Mumble has replaced Teamspeak

There was a recent update to Teamspeak which added a 3rd party piece of software called Overwolf.

I personally didn't like the way this was handled as I don't trust Overwolf and its motives. So I have replaced Team Speak with the Open Source coms sotfware callled Mumble

Use the same server settings as Teamspeak to connect.

Homeworld: Shipbreakers no longer free to play

Instead its going to be a normal game.  With no microtransactions besides dreaded DLC. ( Except Gearboxs DLC for Borderlands 2 was accually worth it ).

So yeah, we are getting another proper, homeworld. Hopefully they add singleplay story as well.

Alien Chest Burster

I love this stuff, more than CGI.
Why, Because you can't get this kind of reaction if your actors can't see whats going on
Only John Hurt knew what was going to happen in this scene, the actors just got a vage descrption that the thing would appear and it had teeth.

Hardware: Shipbreakers renamed

Elder Scrolls Online to have Microtranstions

"There won't be anything like 'bonus points,' but we'll have a shop to buy kind of fun stuff, and services too, like name changes and things like that. But it's not part of the core game. Like, anything in the core game is included in the subscription price."
Defnition of 100% is a little diffrent to them than to me. Keep spinning that spin and bring on the $25 horse armor !

Neverwinter: Feywild is live

Neverwinters first expansion is live.

It adds a new Campaign system with a new zone to explore A 20v20 PVP/PVE event called Gauntlgrym and new professions.

There is also a new race for sale, Moon Elf. Near imposable to say that without falling off my chair. For $59.95 USD you can get this a unicorn and other elf fluff.

This is much like the Legcay of Romulas with non essential fluff up for insane prices. But I rather have games like this which allow me to return easy and just play than pay for a subscription.

I am also sure that you can get the elf separate ( problery $25 considering it looks like its sparkles) if you had some insane desire to roll one.

Still I have no issue what so ever with this model. Because its my choice. If they did decide to put something up that I must have, I would buy it as if this game was a subscription based game I would have put that amount of money into the game already. Much like the ships I have brought in Star Trek Online.

The Majority of the expansion is available for no extra cost so it is good to reward games that you enjoy playing.

The Elder Scrolls Online subscription ensures players get '100% of the game'

I am posting this here, so that if the game has a cash shop, I can reference this later quote:

When you're in an Elder Scrolls game, you're in a world. We don't want players to hit monetization fees when they're in the world. It's like, I go into a dungeon, if I don't have access to the dungeon it pops up a window: you don't have access to this, go buy 50 credits. We didn't want that experience. That's not an Elder Scrolls experience.
I have yet to play a FP2 game that has any sort of popup that requires you to buy something to play game content. The only game I know which does this is Dungeon & Dragons Online.

100% of the game means no cash shop to me. but then there is this quote:

"We wanted to do monetisation outside of the game. So, if I pay for a month at a time, I have 100 per cent of the game. I don't have to worry about paying one more cent. I'll never run into a pay gate and I'll be in the world."
Wanted to do monetisation outside of the game ? Still going to ?

I guess we will have to wait and see.

Elder Scrolls online to have a subscription

We're building a game with the freedom to play - alone or with your friends - as much as you want. A game with meaningful and consistent content - one packed with hundreds of hours of gameplay that can be experienced right away and one that will be supported with premium customer support. Charging a flat monthly (or subscription) fee means that we will offer players the game we set out to make, and the one that fans want to play. Going with any other model meant that we would have to make sacrifices and changes we weren't willing to make.
Well, thats easy to say, but will you do it ?

The bar has been set by the free to play / subscription less games.

Guildwars 2:
Content updates every 2 weeks which include new areas and dungeons. As well as new gameplay.

Star Trek Online:
Content updates every 1 - 2 months. Free Expansions that double the size of the game and completely redo the experance.

Ever MMO contains hundreds of hours of gameplay, the free ones  even more. Subscriptions just mean you can get a burst  of income for the first 2 months. Once people blow though all your content in a week they will unsub and then you can go Free to play.

Make sure you launch with a in game Store as well to sell the new content for maxamin profit  along with the subscription !

Wildstar to have Subscription model

See ya Wildstar, I don't want you to call me any more until you go free to play.

Sure you have a plex system like EvE but you are not EvE. Unless there is a massive money sink in the game all your going to be doing is push around gold. I just know that Wildstar is going to have a cash shop as well to double dip.

I don't see the point of subscription games these days. Not after Star Trek Online made everyone look bad with Legacy of Romulas.

I would have also been fine with Buy to play, but this game is also Buy to play & Subscription. So that means if it lasts until expansions are released you have to buy those as well. Which kills your player base off slowly. E.G. I don't have Mists of Pandera. Once the next expansion for WoW is released it means I will be needing to fork out $120 to get mists and the next expansion. The likely hood of me doing that is ZERO.

EvE which doesn't charge for expansions gets me coming back every 1 - 2 years when they release something cool.

The shine of wildstar fell off a few months back when I realised its just a reskin of Warcraft. It still holding onto the Trinty and I can't stand Trinty games now. I want to play what ever I want, not the tank / healer because none else wants too !

If the game was buy to play or free to play then I would give it a shot. The reason is I feel pay to play games are corrupt. The prime example is Warcraft between Cata and Mists. There was almost a year of zero content updates. Free to play has to make content that brings people back to the game, they also have to craft items that people want to buy in the store.

I personally feel that STO store is very expensive but the way I look at it is I have gotten months of enjoyment out of the game so buying a $25 ship every so offen to support a game I like is good.

Buying a $25 sparkle horse while feeding them $15 a month ISN'T

So Subscription + all content is good
Buy to play / Free to play  + Store is also good
Buy to play + Subscription + Store is a rip off

I like to pay for my games, but I also like to get something in return for it that just the privilege to play as there are so many other ( and some times better ) games out there to play.

X Rebirth: Controls

Looks like you can't walk around on your ship while its in flight and stations seem instanced and not in the universe.

I was very sussed with the same animation played over in all the videos of you sitting down in your commanders chair.

Kind of disaponting, guess we have to wait for StarCitizen to get that kind of gameplay.

More EQN:Rumors

Another list of stuff announced at SOELive source from reddit:

  • Holy trinity is dead. No dedicated healers or focused tanks based on combat mechanics.
  • Combat model: visceral, active movement orientated gameplay.
  • Everyone is responsible for their own safety, and part of the action.
  • There is no threat meter/agro/taunting.
  • Utility classes will be rewarded for their efforts
  • NPC's will figure out your tactics and react. You're gonna want some friends to play with you.
  • There is no artificial limitation to the number of classes/abilities you can collect.
  • 8 combined abilities. Kind of like choosing your 8 spells in EQ1
  • The ownage we saw in the gameplay footage isn't going to be the norm. Those were highly advanced characters.
  • There will be a variety of pets. Some permanent and some temporary. Pet AI much smarter in this game
  • Newly added weapons also give the game more abilities.
  • Lots of abilities don't require a target. Swing a long sword, hit anything in its way
  • 4 weapon abilities and 4 character abilities.
  • highly customizable. i.e want to kill casters? Multiclass a rogue with a wizard and use Invisibility, backstab, manaburn, spell reflect
  • Every time a new class is added to the game we get new abilities that change the strategies used. Keep things fresh.
  • Name your custom classes.
  • Character abilities are pick and choose. Not weapon abilities
  • Customize your class. Choose abilities from any of the classes you possess.
  • Play one class, advance another. Don't have to be playing the class you want to work on.
  • Collect multiple classes, advance each one. Swap classes outside of combat
  • Character abilities: movement, offensive, defensive & utilities. Abilities based on class
    Blademaster: 4 offensive abilities
    Rogue: 2 offensive 2 utility
    Wizard: 2 movement 1 defense 1 offense
    Tempest: 2 movement 1 offense 1 utility
  • Classes that use the same weapons have different animations so you can tell what class somebody is by watching them move
  • Your weapons determine your 4 abilities.
  • No weapon swapping during combat
  • Class determines your armor/weapon options
  • Warrior animations inspired by the Incredible Hulk.
  • Warrior destructive and strong. Leap, whirlwind, shield bash.

EQN: Grails Vs Pillars

When SOE announced Everquest Next over the weekend one topic was the four Holy Grails the game philosophy is built on. These are:

1# Change the core game

MMO's have been doing the same thing since Ultima Online. SOE want to do something different and make something new.

The reality is they are just going to clone the system from Guildwars 2 or going back further Star Trek Online. Using weapons to fill out your skill bar and create more of a action based combat.

The class system is a mix between Guildwars 1 and Rift.

But compared to the Everquest series the core game has been changed.

There is a ton of new information appearing about there being no grind / levels or even XP from mobs which is some real core game changes.

2# Destructibility

Looks, sounds, and should be amazing. Just control the trolls. This is a real core game change.

3# A life of consequence

AI doing more than wondering around and  players choices meaning something and effecting the world. This paired with Grail two is needed.

4# Permanent Change

This isn't tied to Grail two cause that would just be insane. Just imagine as every single block is removed from the game leaving nothing but a picture of Peter Molyneux grinning back. This Grail is more about dynamic events and how the end results will stick, not reset a hour later when no ones around.

All this just reminds me of the hype Bioware had for their Old Republic:
MMOs are built on three pillars: exploration, combat, and progression. At BioWare and LucasArts, we believe most MMOs ignore an important fourth pillar: story. Our mission is to create the best story-driven games in the world, and we believe that the compelling, interactive storylines in The Old Republic are a significant innovation in the MMO genre.
Glad to see that SOE isn't piling all there game onto one support pillar because as we saw in The Old Republic, if that pillar breaks, you need the other 3 to fall back on.

Everquest Next: Rumor Mill

Source, a guy on reddit talking to a dev at SOELive Pool Party. So these aren't confimed features but still a very interesting find:

WORLD
  • Seamless world - no zones
  • The land mass shown was not Antonica, it was just a land mass. I asked if Kelethin existed and he shrugged as if he could not answer. BUT IF THEY HAVE CRUSHBONE (concept art) THEY MUST HAVE KELETHIN RIGHT?!
  • I asked about the limitations I had read about with the Light Forge engine in regards to water (rivers) and square-ish maps, his response was that it was a heavily modified version so there will be fluids in the game.
  • No oceans, 'yet'.
  • There will not be 2 factions (ie alliance/horde), or 2 sides (evil/good).
CHARACTERS
  • There will be 8 starting classes, the one you pick you basically get for free. The other classes you will be able collect. I am assuming these 8 will be a part of the 40 planned classes (more of which will be shown tomorrow in the classes panel). Their plan is to release new classes as the years progress. It was also mentioned that some classes will be extremely hard to obtain.
  • No levels - referred to as `tiers', the 'zones' will be tiered with certain level mobs and usually will be higher tiered the deeper you go in that specific area. In order to tier up you will have to complete certain objectives; one example given is say completing a specific set of armor would tier you up.
  • 8 max total abilities at any given time. 4 per weapon, and 4 per class. He mentioned something about all 8 being from weapons if you were say duel wielding, but I may have misunderstood him here.
  • There is NO XP from mob killing, no grinding, etc etc. Essentially what we're looking at is a set of objectives and how we go about completing those objectives will be up to us. It was said that one may be able to tier up without even having to fight.
  • RANGERS ARE A CONFIRMED CLASS
  • Cannot progress both a paladin and a shadow knight at the same time. Basically you have to do bad things to get friendly with the SK people so you can up the SK skills, but you have to do good things to get in nice with the paladin folks to get trained in paladin things. You can however, do bad things and get the SK class, then redeem yourself and get the paladin class, but in doing so you may no longer be able to talk to the SK people and continue your progression with that class.
  • I asked about death; they cannot talk about death. All he said was "it's cool and we think you'll like it".
ITEMS
  • All items will be bind on equip (or pickup, not sure). He said that he loved the idea of non-bind weapons but they ruin the economy.
  • the game will be heavily based on gear, he loves gear and loves the hunt for gear. One example he gave us is say you were a Rogue that wanted to get the wizard's teleport spell - well once you obtain the teleport spell and use it, you most likely would not have enough stamina/mana/whatever to do your backstab, so you would want to gear that class specifically for this task by obtaining a weapon that returned stamina/mana/whatever on teleport.
  • Crafted items and dropped items (say from raids) will be of equal value many times. This is all dependent on the class, spec, etc though. He basically said there is a big emphasis on crafting and they want their goods to be competitive.
COMBAT
  • NO AUTO ATTACK, I asked if was similar to NW's combat system and he said it was similar, but more advanced.
  • The demo shown was more of a `tech demo' for the destructible environment. None of the NPCs were even pathing (the small ones were not even attacking back).
  • BOWS are in the game (more on that tomorrow apparently).
MISC
  • I asked if there was a large majority of the game that they were not showing us (maybe due to lack of polish etc etc) and he said yes.
  • Crafting was compared to SWG, but better
  • There are currently 70-90 devs (don't remember the exact number) on the dev team for EQN.

Everquest Next: Characters Video

What is Everquest Next ?

To sum it up:

Everquest Next is Guildwars 2 & Minecraft

Today we got our first look at Everquest Next at SOELive. What was shown was something that looked very much like Planetside 2, Guildwars 2, Minecraft & Wildstar.

Just one big difference, the world is made out of Voxels not Cubes, but Voxels like we had over a decade ago. So the entire environment is destroyable. As you saw the demo characters fight monsters, parts of the world were being destroyed.

The first thing that came to me when I saw this, is that the entire world is going to be trash after 30 mins of launch. They did say the world would heal itself.

Glaring flaws to one side, the effect was amazing cool. Most of the destruction was covered in thick clouds of dust so you couldn't see the world subtraction but it was the same as letting off tnt in minecraft. At one point the players were knocked into a underground cavern ( with a edit of video ).

The game will have a procedural generated underworld where you can dig down and discover caverns ruins and lava pits. This part is very much like Minecraft except that the world resets it self with earthquakes, generating new areas and removing old. This gameplay will be fantastic as its no longer just lets go into a cave, kill something, walk out the way you came in.

The player graphics were slightly disappointing to start with. They look very much like Free-Realms / Wildstar. Very cartoon, large eyes and didn't really fit into the world. By the end of it I had accepted that this is what they would look like. I was hoping for more like the supposed leaked image a while back which was a realistic detailed character.

The lion guy though was AWESOME !

As for the Guildwars 2 style parts, the game has 8 classes to choose from. Then out in the game you can find another 40 classes to learn. At any time you can combine these classes to make new completely unique class. This is very much like Guildwars 1 skill system. Also each class can use certain weapons which give more abilities like Guildwars 2.

Another Guildwars 2 feature is the public quest style system. They are describing it much like the original Guildwars 2 videos did. Being able to shape the world depending on the outcome. In guildwars 2 this did happen, just the encounters were designed so they could be reset. Everquest Next system sounded like they were going to take much longer to complete and the end result is permanent. What was described was a camp, becoming a village, the players had quests to remove mobs from the forest which they did but this caused a war in which ended with a siege of the village. Once complete the rally point ( public quest ) would move to a new location. They want people to be able to say to new players, ' I defended this place, the reason its here is because I was there '

They also talked about Mob AI. Not having set spawn points where they idle around but instead every mob ends up having things they like and dislike. Orcs as there example disliked Towns and Guards, but liked adventures and roads. So the orcs would travel around and setup camps where they liked.

The players could remove the orcs by wiping them off the face of the world or telling guards about the orc location and lastly by just not going that way any more until its safe.

Once again a interesting idea and it will be good to see it in action with a billion players.

Later this year Everquest Next: Landmark will be released. This is almost a pure minecraft game in the engine. The point being to let players help build the world for Everquest. Players will get the same easy to use world building tools to sculpt there patch in the world. If the creations are popular they will be added to the final game. Also structures and player made items will be sold on the market place in much the same way stuff is created for Dota 2 and TF2.

My thoughts on this are, if EQN ( Everquest Next ) is free to play then go ahead. I myself would be even temped to submit content to the game.

Anyway, by the end, I was very excited. This is going to be a new MMO experience with idea borrowed from some of my Fav games and I am sorry to all the other MMO's coming, I am no longer interested .....  Well I might still be interested in Archeage but that's about it.

Jeremy Soule doing the music to Everquest Next

Because really, who else would you get these days.

Still if Direct Song offers a signed CD I know I won't be buying it. Almost 1 year since ordering the Guildwars 2 soundtrack and Direct Song is still dicking around and making excuses as to why it hasn't shipped. Feels like the company is a fraud.

Shadowrun Returns: Warning

I had a bad feeling when I pre-ordered this game when it appeared on steam, turns out I was right.

This game seems extremely rushed. I was hoping for a deep Shadowrun Experience, what you get is something not much better than the weak SNES game from a few years back.

Combat is Xcom lite, as Xcom was lite to begin with this isn't good. You have two action points ( later on you get 3 but this doesn't help ), you can ether shoot, or move with those points. It has a cover based system but in the end the battles just feel pointless. You click, things die.

Inventory management is poor, just a few slots but no real loot to find. Guns need to be reloaded but you have endless ammo. Stores have a set selection of items and you can never travel back to any store in the game.

The game autosaves at checkpoints but these checkpoints can be far between areas. I spent quite a bit of time on a single map. Did 2 battles, and a whole bunch of stuff then exited the game. When I returned that game had reset me back to the start of the map and I had lost all progress and had to repeat it again.

For $1.8 million the game looks nice but has weak animations and zero voice acting.

The plot so far seems like a retelling of Jack the Ripper and very linear, it seems once you walk off a map you can't return to that location at all.

The game has a tool kit which makes people go, ' Its going to be like Neverwinter Nights ' but no multiplayer. So the true RPG shadow run experience is missing. If this had coop multiplayer it would be a much better game.

The game isn't worth $19.95 USD, $9.95 USD maybe. I know for sure that I won't be buying any more products from the devoplers Harebrained Schemes.

So I am personally disaponted with the game. It could have been a fantastic in deepth RPG, instead we got something more suitable for a cellphone. Just I can see the autosave system being a utter pain in the ass on a phone.

Warcraft Double Dipping

They have always doubled dipped since they released that retared horse but now you can do it in game:
For players who are already interested in the in-game items we offer, such as Pet Store pets and mounts, the benefits of an in-game store are pretty clear. We think everyone would appreciate the convenience of being able to make such purchases without having to leave the game, and ultimately that’s our long-term goal for the system, though there’s quite a bit of work involved in retrofitting those existing items into the new system.
I hated Star Trek Online for this in the past because it is insulting to promote fluff when your paying a subscription.

Since STO went free to play it hasn't bothered me and in fact I use the system. X amount of months = saved subscription fees which then can be converted into a ship if I choose.

Cause I am all for supporting a game, just not signing up for it to suck out money monthly then expected me to dump it into a cash shop as well.

Just got my brochure for the 300i from ORIGIN Jumpworks

Right at this minute the engineers at ORIGIN Jumpworks are hard at work producing the ship i ordered. In the coming months I'll be able to visit the hanger and take a look over it myself and hopefully, so long as things stay on schedule, a test flight at the end of the year.
And remember, the next generation is now.

Coming soon Warcraft in game store

Including XP boosters. Yep, blizzard are toying with the idea to pay to play the game less. Sure most games have these now, also all of those that I know do are Free to Play or Buy to Play. In the case of Guildwars 2 they throw free XP boosters at you ( I have about 30 stacked up ).

Now, if they are also going Free to play then I wouldn't have a issue with this at all but there is no word about them toying with that idea, at least in the West.

Maybe its the big surprise for Blizzcon, considering Titan is out of the picture again.

Would I play it if they went free to play. Problery not, the game is just not what I expect from a MMO any more.

More to hate about the new Ghost in the Shell

The story is set in 2029, why the hell are they now running around with Microsoft Surface tablets running Windows 8 ?

Yep, product placement, forgetting the fact that the major has more processing and memory in her cybernetics than all the worlds current surface products combined.

There is a humours advert for the surface featuring the Major and her crew stealing information using a surface tablet. Not only does it show how slow the tablet is at downloading, it makes a mockery of a cyberspace world where the characters suddenly have to carry around this device to download data.

Anyway just another reasion why I will not be getting the new Ghost in the Shell.

HONEYDEWYEAYEA

The original was funny, this is just fantastic !

Watch_dogs Multiplayer Video

I don't like the way it broadcasts to the player when you have been hacked, but it looks miles better than the assassins creed multi player as it takes place in the game world.

Dragon Age III Inquisition name change

Its now known as Dragon Age: Inquisition

Quick, we need to make sure no one links it to part II otherwise no one will want it !!!!!

I will not touch it, because contrary to what Bioware believe, I don't buy their games because of story. Bioware story's are some of the worst repeated plots in RPG history. Reason I felt Dragon Age 1 was good was because it offered a interesting top down tactical RPG. Dragon Age 2 was a 3rd person pile of crap.

So unless Dragon Age III shows me something of strong tactical RPG game play, I am not going to touch it. I am also going to refuse to call it Dragon Age: Inquisition, its the III part in the series and you can't pretend that part II never existed !. Even though I wish I could.

XBone 180

Microsoft have done a 180 on there always online DRM:
So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.
This is a good thing for XBone users but its something that shouldn't be celebrated because it shouldn't have happened in the first place. Like govements, Microsoft tried to sneak this under a 'cloud' of hype but most people saw though it.

What I really don't get is those people who are now disappointed about the dropping of features when dropping DRM. You people need to get YOUR HEAD CHECKED. Stop bending over for these corporate entities, you are the reasion horse armor DLC & online check DRM even exisits. Microsoft is still looking for for the publishers and not the consumers and they are going to screw you over in some other way with DRM.

Xbone end of life

People are asking, what will happen to our games when the Xbtwo comes out. Major Nelson, that guy who was in the army or something had this to say:

I'll just say this: We haven't even started this generation, so it's kind of early to talk about the end of the generation. That's certainly something we would not do. That's not the way the system is designed. It's designed for flexibility. But let's get the system out there first.
That's not a very clear answer. I had the same concerns for steam nearly 10 years ago, what will happen if steam goes bust ?

It took a very long time until I finally brought something on steam but now days its local retail shops I worry about not Steam or online digital shops.

Microsoft would be left with two options, ether keep the service running so people can play their old games, or release a patch which removes the online requirement. At this point most of the multiplayer titles would have shut down. Its just another thing to think about and while they saying its something they would not do, I also get the impression its something they aren't even thinking about. As its a consumer concern not a corporate concern.

Saints Row 3 / 4 To get modding support

This will be very interesting, maybe they looked at Skyrim.

To me, modding is a lost source of income, it is a gamble and it depends on your community if its going to work but games like Skyrim sales life has been extended due to the modding community.

Publishers don't see this, they think modding steal sales from DLC. Adding mod support makes you honest. Because you can't just release the same game with 12 new levels and slap 2014 on the end because the mod makers will do a better job with the original release. Same goes for DLC, you crap out horse armor and your community will mock you.

Publishers instead have to put out a reason for people to buy the DLC. The easiest way to do that is to make it extend the engine in some way for modders to use.

I can only imagine how popular Battlefield 3 would have been if it had a map editor, user run servers and mod support. I know one thing, I would have played it longer than 30 mins that's for sure.

Cutting though the BullCrap: Xbone cloud

Cloud Computing ?
Microsoft is now claiming they will be using cloud computing to:
Game developers can now create persistent worlds that encompass tens or hundreds of thousands of players without taxing any individual console, and those worlds that they built can be lusher and more vibrant than ever before because the cloud persists and is always there, always computing.
Have Microsoft created quantum graphics rendering ? because no amount of ' cloud ' will be able to load assets fast enough unless you start doing some sort of On Live style rendering. Which would also be a waste of time.

What I think they are trying to say is the Xbone can do MMO's

Those worlds can live on in between game sessions
Yes, we call those MMO's or persistent worlds. Also in the past dedicated servers on the PC when there was no such thing as a 'host player' just a server that keeped running 24 hours a day. Usually run by fans of the game, not the money hungry gaming company's.

If one player drops out, that world will continue on and can experience the effects of time, like wear from weather damage, so that when a player comes back into the universe it's actually a slightly evolved place in the same way that our real world evolves a little bit from the time we go to sleep to the time we wake up. Game developers have given us incredibly positive feedback on the crazy different ways that they can use this incredible new cloud power resource.
This can be done already, in fact it was done decades  ago in Ultima Online but the question is, is this what you want in a single player game ?

This ' cloud ' doesn't justify having the console always connected. Its a load of hype from some suit who has ideas but no clue.

Planetary Annihilation Alpha out today ...... but

They want $89 USD for it, and its a Alpha !

They have got to be utter loonies.

Lets look at the Arma 3 alpha. You buy it for the normal price the game will be relesaed at. This pre-order gives you access to the Alpha and now upcoming Beta then finally the full game on release. Effectively you are testing the game for the devoplers.

Planetary Annihilation has you paying for the right to test, by the sounds of it you are paying more to test it than someone will at release. This is utterly insane. Minecraft was the reverse, it was released cheaper to begin with and as more features were added it went up in price until version 1.0

There excuse is kickstarter, I paid even less to get Star Citizen alpha. beta access !

So yeah, while I was interested in this game, I can wait to see what the final costing is, but I am going to keep a eye on it. If they are going to sell it at AAA prices they better have a AAA currently they have cartoon version of Superme Commander.

Cutting though the BullCrap: Virtual Realms

Blizzard announced Virtal Realms today:

Virtual Realms are sets of realms that are fused together, and will behave exactly as if they were one cohesive realm. Players on the same Virtual Realm will be able to join guilds, access a single Auction House, join arena teams and raids, as well run dungeons or group up to complete quests.

Sounds like a fancy way of saying, Merging servers with out the word merge.

PS4 Amazing features

All Sony had to do is announce that there console was going to work just like all previous consoles and they get a standing ovation with such innovation.

Don't get me wrong, this is great for gamers its just sad that it even had to come to this but at least people aren't letting Microsoft go unpunished with the DRM policy's they are trying to enforce.

Still the PS4 requires a fee ( yearly/monthly ? ) to be able to play online games, this alone makes me not interested in it. As most of these games are Peer 2 peer setups so effectively your paying them the right to host and join games which on the PC was always free.

The Stick of Truth E3

The visuals in this game are some of the best so far, why ? because its accually southpark in game form, not some crazy 3D hybrid. Also it looks so much better than Dragon Age 3.

Dragon age 3

I wondered about posting this or not, but really, its a chance to make fun of Dragon age 2

I love how almost everything from E3 this year says 'Actual game footage' but most of these trailers lack any game play what so ever.

The trailer doesn't contain anything that makes me want to get, play or even try the game. I vaguely recognise characters from Dragon Age 2 but that game was so terrible that I only played less than a hour of it. Then the end part where they show Morrigan or Flemeth or who the hell it is just makes me want to roll around on the floor laughing. The visuals are horrid and the animation is really poor on that character.

To top it off I think I read they are making a open world. In Bioware terms that means a hub with 4 pathways instead of 1.

Wow, I guess Dragon Age 2 has still doing a lot of damage with the way I see Bioware.

Oh yeah Bioware, make sure you add a two awesome buttons, then spout videos on how great it is then sell it as day one DLC.

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt trailer

This is the best thing to come out of E3 so far, of cause microsoft paid good money to have it at there stage. In fact most of there games they showen are coming to the PC. If I was a publisher, I wouldn't lock any exclusivity with the XBone. It seems a bit too much like Windows 8.

Its also coming to the PS4 but why would you touch those locked machines when you can have a DRM FREE version on the PC which supports mod tools and improved graphics ?

Deep Silver Saints Row 4: Price Gouging

I was keen on getting Saints Row 4 after the last trailer, that was until I saw this on Steam, see if you can spot the difference:

The top one is the price that appears if I log in via steam, the bottom on is shown if I look at the steam site without logging in. Basically they are slapping $20 USD onto the price just to sell it to New Zealand.

This isn't steam but the publisher Deep Silver who is Gouging us. Saints Row 3 from THQ didn't have this non-us tax slapped on.

So I will not be buying the game, I will also not be pirating the game as I have just lost all interest at this point but I know it will get pirated a lot more because of this.

Deep Silver aren't the only ones practising this scam on steam. As shown here, only Bohemia Interactive and Sony aren't ripping us off. 2K Games, Bethesda, Sega all should be ashamed of themselves.

DOTA 2 Give Away

I have 30 copies of Dota 2 that need off loading. This seems like some weird promotion from Steam ( why don't they just open it up for everyone ? )

If by some chance you don't have Dota already and you want one then just hit me up on steam.
